Our Youth Pilot Projects

ABA, Girl Scouts National Partnership
In February 2007, the American Bar Association and the Girl Scouts of the USA announced a new partnership to launch a national pilot program, “Take Charge! Violence Prevention, Conflict Resolution and Law” to introduce these concepts to teens girls at a critical point in their development. The program was identified as a collaborative strategy by which the legal system and the youth serving community can better guide young girls to right choices and a brighter future.

In 2006, the partner organizations conducted pilot programs among a diverse group of over fifty girls from across the metropolitan Chicago area. An interactive curriculum exposed girls to issues around school safety; teen dating violence prevention facts and recommendations; legal protections in cases of abuse; conflict resolution skill development; case studies on “search and seizure;” and the importance of “rule of law” in a democratic society. Through the launch of a national pilot program, the ABA and the Girl Scouts hope to reach hundreds of teen girls in major urban centers.
