Basic Reminders for the New (and Not-so-New) Lawyer
Re: Clients
Improve your public image and enhance your career by following these guidelines in your everyday practice of law.
DO return your clients' phone calls on the same day they call, if possible.
DON'T over bill your clients and, if called upon, provide pro bono services to those in need.
DO keep your clients apprised of what is going on in their cases.
DON'T have your clients waiting in the lobby for more than five minutes without someone coming out to greet them.
DO listen to your clients and show respect. Never shout at your clients.
DON'T tell your clients that you cannot help them because you are too busy working on a "more important" matter.
DO personally meet with your clients before depositions and before trial to help them understand the process and to calm them.
DON'T waste your clients' time with war stories, and don't brag about your material items.
DO know the facts of the case and the appli-cable law before speaking to your clients.
