The Take On Telecommuting
More employers are approaching telecommuting with the flexibility needed to make it work,
according to results of a survey recently conducted by the YLD Women in the Profession
Committee. Survey respondees included men and women from every region of the country, in
large and small firms.
Based on responses from participants who answered each question, these statistics may give you
food for thought if you are considering telecommuting.
- Majority of telecommuters work full-time
- Majority of employers permit entry-level lawyers to telecommute
- Nearly half of telecommuters reported working the same number of hours or more on
telecommuting days as on office-bound days
- Majority of telecommuters have desktop computers, modems, fax capability, printers,
answering machines, e-mail, and either Lexis or Westlaw
- More than 75% of telecommuters reported that telecommuting status did not affect
partnership or other promotional consideration
- Nearly 75% reported that their compensation and benefit packages were not affected by
their telecommuting status
