It is my great pleasure to invite you to the YLD’s Spring Conference in Portland, Oregon, on May 18-20, 2006. In addition to presenting opportunities for learning, teambuilding, networking and fun, this unique joint conference with the AIDS Coordinating Committee will also allow attendees to attend cutting-edge programming on HIV/AIDS law, the focus of the YLD’s 2005-06 Public Service Project.

The Spring Conference is designed to appeal to our diverse membership, such that affiliate leaders, new graduates and tenth-year partners will all find programming to meet their interests. On the public service side, attendees can attend programs offered as part of the HIV/AIDS Law Conference, as well as breakouts featuring several public service projects that have been successful in local affiliates. Our member service project will offer breakouts on topics relating to charting your own career development, with a particular focus on tips from employers. For those seeking CLE, you’ll have an opportunity to earn at least five CLE credits at YLD programming, plus additional hours at HIV/AIDS Law Conference programming. Affiliate leaders will meet with our affiliate assistance team during breakout sessions, and also during one-on-one sessions designed specifically for individual affiliates. Finally, if financial planning is in your future, don’t miss the American Bar Endowment’s breakout on personal financial planning and the one-on-one financial planning meetings offered for individuals.

Outside of our breakout programs, there are numerous opportunities to meet and work with other young lawyers. Join us for our welcome event on Thursday night and our dinner dance on Friday night. On Friday afternoon, we will participate in a local public service event that will highlight our focus on public service and provide attendees with an opportunity to benefit the local community. We also encourage you to explore the city and surrounding attractions, all of which combine to make Portland a vibrant and welcoming destination.

We extend a special welcome to our international young lawyer guests. Their participation in our Spring Conference allows us to continue to foster
our relationships with young lawyers around the globe. Don’t miss your chance to meet young lawyers from Canada, Europe and beyond!

We will also be celebrating the achievements of the two winners of the YLD’s 2006 Child Advocacy Award. This award, given annually since 1990
by the YLD in conjunction with the YLD’s Center on Children and the Law, honors child advocacy lawyers for their distinguished service on behalf
of children. The award recognizes two lawyers each year, at least one of whom is a young lawyer.

With the exception of our Friday night social event, all programs and events are provided at no cost to young lawyers through the generous support
of the American Bar Association and the fundraising efforts of our local host committee. We look forward to welcoming you in the City of Roses!
