» ABA YLD Seeks Your Diversity Story and Best Practice
The YLD hosted a Diversity Dialogue that brought together 20 different ABA entities to share how they attract and retain diverse, new lawyers.  The dialogue will continue on April 19th during the Diversity: The Next Generation summit in Washington DC. The summit will provide a forum for attendees to exchange ideas on how young lawyers can ensure that the profession reflects the society that it serves and fosters an inclusive environment. Any lawyer can share his/her young lawyer vignette in advance of the summit, which will also provide foundation for the gathering.

» ABA YLD Adopts Long Range Plan
The activities of the ABA YLD will now be governed by a new long range plan that was adopted at the Division’s Council Meeting in Los Angeles. The six-point plan outlines goals and strategy concepts which will help the Division serve young lawyers in a variety of ways.

» Wills for Heroes Helps 60 First Responders
Lawyers from ABA YLD, the Beverly Hills Bar Association Barristers and Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll joined forces to draft simple estate planning documents for about 60 Beverly Hills public safety workers. Beverly Hills Mayor Jimmy Delshad visited the firehouse that day to issue a “Wills for Heroes Day” proclamation.

» ABA Selects Two Former ABA YLD Chairs for Top Positions
The ABA House of Delegates nominated Carolyn Lamm to be President-Elect of the ABA. She was Chair of the ABA YLD from 1982-1983. In addition, William Hubbard was nominated to Chair the House of Delegates beginning in August 2008. He was Chair of the ABA YLD from 1987-1988.

» ABA YLD Assembly Debates Resolutions
The most hotly contested resolution for the ABA YLD’s policy-making body, the Assembly, was Resolution 113, which changed the way bar passage rates are considered as a factor in law school accreditation. The resolution not only failed, but the Assembly also voted to accept the negative, which bound the YLD Representatives to the ABA’s policy-making body, the House of Delegates, to oppose the resolution. The House of Delegates voted to adopt Resolution 113 after a lengthy debate and after considering the ABA YLD's position and the opinion of other delegates, including representatives from the NBA and HNBA.
