About the ABA YLD Assembly

The ABA YLD Assembly is the principal policy-making body of the ABA YLD. During the Assembly, many issues of importance to young lawyers and potential resolutions for adoption are debated and then voted on. By taking part in this event you have the opportunity to have your voice heard and to help shape the profession.

Assembly Resources

Delegate Certification
Ensure that your voice is heard at the ABA YLD Assembly. Young lawyer state bar organizations, national affiliates, and military branches must submit delegate names to the YLD. If you are interested in serving as a delegate, contact your local young lawyer affiliate, state young lawyer bar organization, the appropriate national affiliate, or your military branch point person regarding your interests.

Please note that delegates must be current ABA members and must be registered for the Meeting.

On-site Check-in for Delegates being Certified

  1. Go to the ABA headquarters hotel and pick up your ABA registration badge or register on-site. You will need your ABA registration badge to certify.
  2. Next go to the ABA YLD delegate certification table, which is located at the YLD hotel. Then you will need to sign in to receive a delegate ribbon.
  3. On the day of the Assembly, bring your ABA registration badge and delegate ribbon to the Assembly room and sit with your state, national affiliate, or military branch.

Resolutions
Resolutions are sometimes called reports with recommendations. The ABA House of Delegates considers resolutions that, after adoption by the House, become Association policies. A YL Resolution is one written by a Young Lawyer. Those that pass the Assembly are brought to the house on the ABA YLD's behalf.
