Mark Your Calendars for the Midwest Regional Conference- Coming to Minneapolis This September. . . .

The Minnesota New Lawyers Section will host the 2000 ABA Young Lawyers Division Midwest Regional Conference in Minneapolis, September 7-9, at the Radisson Hotel in Minneapolis. The event, which is expected to draw seventy-five registrants from around the Midwest, will kick off with a reception Thursday evening at the Minnesota State Bar Association office in downtown Minneapolis, followed by a social at Kieran's Irish Pub. According to Gretchen Otto, past chair of the Minnesota New Lawyers Section, the purpose of the regional meeting is "to showcase successful projects of affiliates," "motivate and revitalize" new lawyers groups around the region, and "highlight the public service activities" of these groups.

The agenda for the conference combines discussion of projects with educational programs and social events. Educational programs will include workshops on "Speaking Tips," "Parliamentary Procedure," and "Alternative Legal Careers," as well as a CLE program on evidence offered by Judge Ann Montgomery at the Federal Courthouse. Justice John Simonett, retired associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, will be the keynote speaker at the Friday luncheon.

Registrants will be treated to dinner and jazz at the Dakota Bar & Grill in St. Paul on Friday night. A Masquerade Gala at the Radisson on Saturday night, co-sponsored by the Hennepin County Bar Association and open to all members of the New Lawyers Section, will wrap up the event on a festive note.

The Midwest region includes the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
