Litigation Ethics Training
Materials Available at No Cost from ABA
The American Bar Association
Section of Litigation has developed and released Litigation Ethics:
Course Materials for Continuing Legal Education, a detailed collection
of materials to help law firms, bar associations, and other groups that
provide ethics and professionalism training. To facilitate widespread
use of these innovative programs, the Section of Litigation is making
the materials available to the legal community free of charge.
The guide is divided into
eleven chapters, each outlining a specific ethics course. The chapters
include both attendee materials and detailed resources for the instructor.
The courses cover a variety of issues including supervisors/subordinate
relationships in law firms, conflicts of interest in small firm practice,
conflicts in negotiations, contacts with an adverse party's employees,
misdirected communications, ethics in depositions or discovery, and
client and witness perjury.
"This project brought together
the best thinking and insight from top authorities on ethics in the
legal profession," said Fordham University law professor Bruce Green,
who co-edited the project with John Q. Barrett, associate professor
of law at St. John's University School of Law. They created this guide
to be a leading resource for anyone involved with ethics training.
"That the ABA Section of
Litigation chose to allocate significant resources to the development
and free distribution of this guide underscores the importance of ethics
CLE development in our profession," said Green. "This collection of
materials will expand and improve ethics training across the country."
The materials may be obtained by calling the ABA Service Center at 800-285-2221.
