YLD Congratulates the 2009 Subgrant Winners
Subgrants are awarded annually by the ABA YLD, with support from the ABA Fund for Justice and Education. The program is designed to promote quality projects developed by affiliated young lawyer organizations and to assist in the success of the program by providing support through program funding for the following two categories: Public Service Project and Bar Leadership/Membership Service Project.

» 2008-2009 ABA YLD Awards of Achievement

Nominate Your Affiliate by June 15, 2009
This program is an opportunity for state and local young lawyer organizations affiliated with the ABA YLD to submit their best projects for evaluation and recognition by a jury of their peers. It is designed to encourage project development by recognizing the time, effort, and skills expended by young lawyer organizations in implementing public service and bar service projects in their communities. Additional recognition is given to minority attorney involvement projects and Affiliate newsletter programs. To learn more, visit the Awards of Achievement website.


» 2009-2010 ABA YLD Scholarship Program

Apply by June 15, 2009
The ABA YLD Scholarship Program is designed to encourage the participation of minority, solo/small firm, government, private sector, and military service attorneys in the Young Lawyers Division. A priority will be given to those applicants who express a desire to become actively involved with the ABA YLD and require financial assistance. To learn more, visit the Scholarship Program website.

BAR LEADER TOOLKIT

The YLD Bar Leader Toolkit brings together recommendations, tips, and tools prompted from the 2007 Young Bar Leader Summit on how to increase the value of your young lawyer organization. Topics include Developing an Annual Report, Developing Future Bar Leaders, Developing a Diversity Plan, and more. View Toolkit

2008-2009 INITIATIVES

Voices Against Violence is a call to action for young lawyers around the country to join forces to end domestic violence. The program is designed to educate young lawyers about the epidemic of domestic violence, particularly among the teen population and to engage young lawyers in efforts to respond to and prevent domestic violence in their communities. Through the Disaster Legal Services Program the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division work together to provide assistance to low-income disaster victims. After a disaster is declared a Disaster Hotline connects individuals with licensed attorneys who volunteer their services at no charge. Learn more about this on-going project.

FUNDING

Special Reimbursement Program
This program provides a limited number of special reimbursements to conference attendees representing new YLD affiliates or YLD affiliates that have not sent representatives to a national conference for three or more years. These reimbursements include lowest discounted round-trip airfares, up to $20 ground transportation and up to two days per diem at $100 per day. YLD Affiliates may request consideration for these reimbursements through their District Representatives prior to the fall and spring national conferences.
