As the Commission on Women in the Profession concludes a year-long celebration
of its 20th anniversary, we are particularly mindful that the work of the Commission
has been guided by a succession of inspired and inspiring chairs whose devoted and
imaginative leadership has been critical to the Commission's success. In recognition of
their leadership of the Commission and their contributions to the profession, we asked
each of them to offer remarks for this special issue of Perspectives, reflecting on the past,
present, and future of the Commission and of women in the profession. The following
pages include their diverse and thoughtful perspectives on legal issues critical to
women, the challenges to the Commission, and why the Commission's vigilant work
is still needed today.
We salute and extend our gratitude to these extraordinary women for the role each
one has played in bringing the Commission and the ABA to this 20-year milestone.
