"Mainstreaming" the Rule of Law

Many people do not make the connection between the rule of law and the essentials of their daily lives – their safety, jobs, health, education, and infrastructure. Yet the rule of law is essential to delivering the essentials of daily life to more people.

For example, the rule of law is needed for:

  • The military, police and firefighters to make communities safe;
  • Businesses to sell goods and services, which create jobs and other economic opportunities for communities;
  • Labor organizations to defend workers’ rights;
  • Public health organizations to protect communities from sickness, including across national boundaries; and
  • Educators to enhance access to quality education for all children.

The World Justice Project (WJP) has held meetings around the world with leaders from diverse disciplines to discuss how the rule of law affects their ability to achieve their respective goals, and how advancing the rule of law can help them address problems in their communities.

Multidisciplinary outreach meetings have been conducted both in the United States and on four continents around the world.
