World Justice Forum

The World Justice Forum will serve as the “Founders’ Conference” for the World Justice Project.  The Forum, to be held July 2-5, 2008 in Vienna, Austria, will bring together hundreds of leaders from diverse disciplines around the world.  Together, they will launch a new multidisciplinary, multinational movement to strengthen the rule of law.

Invitees include past and current heads of state, presidents of multilateral institutions, CEOs of multinational corporations, labor leaders, and directors of key nongovernmental organizations from 112 countries.

The Forum will feature discussions on multidisciplinary approaches to advancing the rule of law. In addition, the findings of the scholarship sponsored by the WJP will be presented, as will the WJP’s newly created Rule of Law Index and the results of Index field testing in India, Chile, Nigeria, and the United States.

The new African initiatives funded by the WJP will be highlighted. These activities, several of which will be presented at the World Justice Forum, include:

  • workshops led by health, education, and engineering professionals in Botswana, the Central African Republic, and Zimbabwe to strengthen public understanding of the rule of law and develop action plans for next steps,
  • training sessions for employers, workers, and government officials on labor laws in Madagascar, Malawi, and Tanzania, and
  • initiatives on women’s health, property and other rights in Ethiopia and Sierra Leone.
