United Airlines announced it will begin charging a $25 service fee for checked bags. Customers who purchase nonrefundable domestic economy tickets and do not have status in Mileage Plus or Star Alliance may check one bag for free and a second bag for a $25 service fee. UK Airports Improve Carry-On Bag Policy. Effective January 7, 2008, Heathrow, Manchester, Stansted, Southampton, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen Airports will allow departing and connecting passengers to have 2 pieces of carry-on cabin baggage; one cabin bag plus one personal item. Gatwick Airport passengers must still follow the one cabin bag policy. Gatwick is aiming to lift the one bag restriction in March 2008.
