Greetings, from the Chair of the Diversity in the Profession Committee of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section: TIPS is, I believe, the friendliest Section in the ABA. Our Section is not only diverse in membership and leadership, but in practice areas as well. TIPS has many General Committees where any diverse lawyer can find a home. Our Committee strives to help TIPS fulfill its ambitious goals to recruit, involve and retain more diverse members. There are many opportunities for a diverse lawyer to publish, speak and network with colleagues from everywhere. You just need to get involved. With the support of our Section leadership, our Committee has participated in programs at many national meetings, such as the National Conference for the Minority Lawyer, Minority Counsel meeting, etc., and will continue to do so in this coming year. Our Section reaches out to all lawyers of any color, race, gender, physical or mental disability, and sexual orientation. Last year, we expanded our Scope to mirror the commitment of the ABA. We have some exiting projects planned for this coming year. Our first big project is a program on “Providing Persons with Disabilities and The Elderly with Equal Access to Justice” to be held on December 5, 2008, at Stetson University in Florida. Help us in our commitment to make the membership and leadership of the ABA mirror the population of our diverse nation and the clients we serve. Nancy N Quan, Chair |
