TRIAL
TECHNIQUES COMMITTEE
Message From the Chair

Marlo Orlin Leach
If you are reading this message, then you either are a member of the Trial Techniques Committee of TIPS or you are interested in joining our fantastic committee. If you fall into the former category, let me thank you for your continued membership. If you are not yet a member, let me personally extend an invitation to join Trial Techniques and be a part of an exciting group of individuals dedicated to improving the legal profession, and providing our members with opportunities to hone their skills and learn new and innovative trial techniques.
The primary objective of our committee is to present each and every one of our members with the opportunity to enhance their trial skills and advance their knowledge of practical legal techniques. There are a number of methods by which we accomplish this objective. We publish a newsletter several times a year which is available to all of our members. Our newsletter contains helpful articles and practice pointers authored by our members. We sponsor CLE programs on topics of interest to our members. Past topics have included: "The Art of Storytelling," "How to Weave Your Theme Throughout Your Entire Trial," "Powerful Opening Statements," "Theme Building," "Ten Mistakes a Trial Lawyer Should Never Make," and "Power, Passion and Persuasion in the Courtroom." These represent a small sampling of the programs we have sponsored recently.
In March 2008, our committee, along with the Business Litigation committee, will be sponsoring a two day CLE program in Phoenix, Arizona, "Masters of the Courtroom: A Display of Innovative and Proven Trial Techniques." We hope you will be able to attend this outstanding program featuring some of the best trial lawyers in the country.
We want our members to be involved. This committee depends upon the interest and involvement of our members. It is for this reason that we are seeking your input, ideas and suggestions as we continue to grow. There are plenty of opportunities if you would like to become an active member of Trial Techniques. One of the easiest ways is to write a short article for our newsletter. If you have any suggestions, please contact our Newsletter Editor, Joe White, at white@phiferwhite.com, 313-964-2360.
Our committee is open to everyone and we especially welcome plaintiffs' attorneys. If you have any thoughts or suggestions on how to improve the diversity of our committee or would like to get more involved in this area, please feel free to contact our Diversity Vice-Chair, Greg Cesarano, at gcesarno@carltonfields.com, 305-539-7417.
Our Membership Vice-Chair is Steve Chappelear. If you are interested in membership enhancement or involvement or have any ideas on this subject, please contact Steve at sechappelear@hahnlaw.com, 614-233-5148.
Finally, Chris Kenney is our chair-elect. Chris is an outstanding attorney from Boston. He can be reached at cakenney@kandslegal.com.
