¡Hola!

Welcome to Miami Beach where fun in the sun is guaranteed. This year, the TIPS Spring Meeting, May 17-21, 2006, will take place at the Art Deco Mecca of the world in the hotel that hosted the Rat Pack on a regular basis, the Eden Roc. The Eden Roc Hotel is located directly on the beach, so don’t forget your swim wear. For those of you wanting some adventure, windsurfing, wave runners and jet skis are available to rent just steps from the hotel.

Our meeting will begin on Thursday morning and will include several fascinating CLE programs on trial techniques, ethics, and diversity. Following the complimentary reception which will conclude Thursday’s CLE programs, Thursday evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a full buffet welcome dinner and mojitos at Gloria Estefan’s Bongo’s Cuban Café, a beautiful location adjacent to the American Airline’s Arena (home to the Miami Heat) and overlooking the spectacular Biscayne Bay (where Steely Dan sang “… all the Cuban gentlemen sleep all day.”) After dinner, Lincoln Road lies before you for a walk through ten city blocks of pedestrian streets where you can watch rollerbladers, professional artists and amazing fashion statements or even grab a movie or go bowling.

If you are still out and about at about 2:00 a.m. and want to truly experience the South Beach adventure, I suggest hitting some of the outrageous “only in Miami clubs” that continue hopping until 6:00 a.m. While I have not had the opportunity to partake in those festivities, I hear they can be most memorable.

What would a Spring Meeting be without golf? Not to disappoint you golfers, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2006, you will have the opportunity to golf at the Miami Beach Golf Club, an 18 hole course with 128 acres of lush fairways and perfectly manicured greens lined by tropical palms and Jamaican dogwood. Transportation and lunch will be included for this ticketed event. Later in the afternoon, please attend the Joint Reception of the Staff Counsel and Corporate Counsel Committees and the Task Force on Plaintiff ’s Involvement before venturing out on your own for a South Beach evening.

For those of you who did not while away the night before, the Fun Run/Walk will take place at 6 a.m. on Saturday on the beach boardwalk adjacent to the hotel. You are promised a sunrise like you have never seen before. And, as the sun sets, you will enjoy a fun dinner and dance party outside by the hotel pool. After dinner, if you are still up for it, you will have another opportunity to experience the South Beach lifestyle.

If you have further questions or want to ask me anything about your trip to Miami I can be contacted at darcee.siegel@citynmb.com or 305-948-2939.I look forward to seeing you all when you come to visit my home town.
