Miami, FL

Welcome

Dear Colleagues:

We continue the TIPS 2005-2006 tour of the most diverse American cities with the gateway to Central and South America -- Miami. Once we decided that Miami, with its cosmopolitan and international flair, would be the third stop on our tour, Miami Arrangements Chair Darcee Siegel, Meetings Manager Denise St. Fort, and I looked for a hotel close to the action (South Beach) and big enough to house our group and all of its many meetings and events. So we look forward to having you join us at the Eden Roc on May 17 to 21, 2006.

Please plan to arrive in Miami on Wednesday for a full day of timely and informative CLE programs beginning Thursday morning: Ethical Issues in Insurance Defense Litigation; a luncheon in conjunction with Mark Curriden’s gut-wrenching presentation on “Contempt of Court: A Lesson in Legal History;” Same Sex Marriage and Domestic Partners: The New Benefits Landscape; Winning Your Case, What’s Voir Dire Got to Do With It?; and Glass Ceilings to Open Doors: Minority Advancement in the Legal Profession. Several of our General Committees, including our Staff Counsel Committee, will be co-hosting these TIPS Spring Meeting programs.

Following the Thursday afternoon joint reception of the Staff and Corporate Counsel Committees and the Committee on Diversity in the Profession, the Thursday evening Welcome Reception will be at the festive and unique Bongo’s Cuban café with an “only in Miami” dinner and dancing. Friday’s events will include a full slate of meetings; a live Voir Dire demonstration with a jury and jury consultant presented by our Trial Techniques Committee; the Friday afternoon golf outing at the Miami Beach Golf Club; and the Task Force on Plaintiff’s Involvement Reception. Darcee Siegel has provided a long list of restaurants and food options for Friday dinner on your own.

Our Saturday night dinner will be poolside at the Eden Roc. As always, join us Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night after dinner in the Chair’s Suite at the Eden Roc. While you are wining, dining, and socializing, be sure not to miss the fabulous CLE programs your fellow TIPS leaders have organized. Come early to the meeting and stay late, as this is your chance to visit or re-visit the hottest city in the United States.

Very truly yours,

Sandra R. McCandless
Chair, Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section
