TIPS 75th Anniversary

Property Insurance Law Committee

Letter From the Chair

Welcome to a "New Year" for the Property Insurance Law Committee. We have already issued our Fall 2009 Newsletter and are beginning to prepare one for the Winter 2010. If you have any articles you would like published, please feel free to contact John Garaffa at jgaraffa@butlerpappas.com.

In addition, please save the date for our Spring 2010 meeting in Half Moon Bay, California on April 29 - May 2, 2010. The theme of the program is emerging issues in property insurance. While Program Co-Chairs, Kellyn Muller and Marialuisa Gallozzi are still finalizing the agenda, topics that will be addressed include: Chinese drywall and product line issues under property policies; Green Building Development and LEED green requirements; Appraisal issues; What is "direct physical loss or damage"?; Effect of bankruptcy or insolvency on property claims; The effect of Cap and Trade regulation on businesses; Effect of Congressional regulation on surplus line carriers and additional Federal regulation of Surplus lines carriers; Crop contamination claims under first party policies; Subprime lending catastrophe and the effect of foreclosure on property insurance.

TIPS has done an outstanding job helping us secure a premier facility and a terrific room rate for our meeting. The Ritz Carlton at Half Moon Bay is just 23 miles south of San Francisco Airport. Located right on the Pacific shore, the property and amenities are certain to be enjoyed by all. Our room rate is $249 per night and the hotel has also agreed to waive the resort fee. You can obtain more information about the Ritz at www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/HalfMoonBay.

As you can tell, we are a very busy PILC. We urge those of you who are reading this message and wondering how to get more involved with the PILC to contact either of us about any area that suits you and your interests and expertise. We look forward to your continued, renewed, or new involvement.
