Insurance Issues for the Property Owner
For both residential and commercial property owners, our experts will examine the insurance contract and explain the different protections from flood versus homeowner’s insurance. They will also examine policy issues, including the policy period, what damages are included (flood or wind), which storm caused the damage, and understanding your policy. This segment will conclude with practical insurance tips for the property owner.
Mediation?
What is mediation? What types of claims are best suited for mediation with your insurance company? How does it work? Learn how legislation may a?ect your claims and force a mandatory mediation.
Where do we go from here?
What is being done to move the city and state forward? Hear the latest developments and plans from the New Orleans City Attorney (the Mayor of New Orleans and the Lt. Governor of Louisiana have also been invited to speak).
Eminent Domain
Eminent domain is the right of a government to take private property for public use. How might this affect you? Our experts will explain Eminent domain, the various issues related to it and their solutions. They will also cover landlord/tenant issues and provide a brief legislative update.
Lunch will be provided. During the lunch you will have an opportunity to talk to volunteer lawyers and ask questions. There will be lawyers on hand to address eminent domain issues, mediation, insurance issues, and environmental issues.
The program will be followed by a reception that all are invited to attend. At the reception, the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) will award two scholarships to New Orleans law students who were displaced by the storm and have been active in efforts to rebuild the city.
