Fidelity and Surety Law 2120

1999-2000 ABA/TIPS/FSLC ANNUAL MEETING

last updated December 1, 1999

July 7-12, 2000 in New York

The Fidelity & Surety Committee will put on two programs in New York at the Waldorf-Astoria. The first will be co-sponsored with the Professional Officers and Directors Liability Committee of TIPS. The Program will relate to the new combination surety/errors and omissions bonds being issued by some sureties and insurers, and will include an equal number of speakers from FSLC Committee and PODL Committee. David Krebs from FSLC and Howard Marks from PODL will co-chair this program.

We are also tentatively planning to put on a program in New York involving jury instructions for both fidelity and surety cases. The Model Jury Instructions Project for both fidelity and surety law will be finished by then, and we have been promised that the manuals and a program will be ready for the summer meeting in New York. Rob Niesley of Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald, L.L.P. will be chairing the surety side and Dave Dreifuss of Nagle, Rice & Dreifuss the fidelity side of that program. It is my understanding that they still need speakers and contributors to the manual. If you are interested in participating in this program or manual, please give them a call.

July 15-21, 2000 in London, England

The London program will be co-chaired by Vince Fasano and Lynn Schubert and coordinated by Roger Sauer. Our English counterparts will be Don Moorhouse of the Trowers & Hamlin firm and Peter Rees of the Norton & Rose firm in London. The program will be held on July 20, 2000 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the London Underwriting Center. The program will deal with the differences between the United States and English approach to contract surety bonds and employee dishonesty/fidelity bonds. We expect an equal number of speakers from the United States and London. A reception for all attendees will be held after the program at the London Underwriting Center from 5:00-7:30 p.m.

I would strongly urge that you make your reservations for London as soon as the program brochures are mailed to you by the ABA. There is some indication that the hotels may actually be filled by the end of December 1999. The rates are good, and the airfare specials will be very enticing, and we have an excellent program and reception planned with our British counterparts.
