Remembering Sonia Schroeder
TIPS recently lost a close friend, colleague and long-time Committee Administrator. Sonia Schroeder lost her valiant battle with cancer on Saturday, April 25, 2009, only weeks after being diagnosed with the disease. For those of you who wish to donate to a charity in Sonia’s name, please consider the South Suburban Humane Society. Sonia was a huge animal lover and recently adopted her 2 German short haired pointers from this humane society.
Denise St. Fort Contributions
In an effort to honor Denise St. Fort, a close friend, colleague, and dedicated TIPS staff member who lost her courageous battle with cancer, a trust fund has been established to ensure the welfare of her family. Awards
Leo Jordan Recognized for Efforts to Assure Insurance Coverage for Disasters
TIPS recognized Leo Jordan
for his service to the section and his leadership role as chair of the TIPS Task Force on Disaster Insurance Coverage, during the Section's Spring Leadership Meeting in Colorado Springs, CO, in April. Under his guidance, the task force brought together all sides of the debate on disaster insurance to create seven policy recommendations, which were adopted as ABA policy by the House of Delegates during the ABA Midyear Meeting in February, in Boston, Mass.
2009 ABA Annual Meeting TIPS Awards
TIPS will be presenting a number of very honorable awards during this year's Annual Meeting. Such awards include the Edmund S. Muskie Pro Bono Service Award, the Liberty Achievement Award, the Pursuit of Justice Award, the Robert B. McKay Law Professor Award and the Excellence in the Advancement of Animal Law Award. Annual Meeting Member Outreach
In a few weeks, you will receive the names of those members of your committee who are registered to attend the Annual Meeting in Chicago. Since there are more TIPS lawyer members in Chicago than any other city in the country, we urge you to take this opportunity to plan a Dutch Treat dinner or lunch, and encourage members who are registered for the meeting to attend your CLE programs and business meeting.
