Who are We?
Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section is a combination of Plaintiff
and Defense Counsel, Insurance and Corporate Counsel, Insurance Staff Counsel,
and Insurance Professionals, and Interested Academics
Task Force members were chosen for their experience in Asbestos Litigation or
Public Policy.
Linda A. Klein, incoming Chair of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice
Section, has appointed Alan R. Brayton of California and Leo Jordan of New
Jersey to Co-Chair the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section’s Asbestos
Litigation Task Force.
Leo Jordan spent 34 years as vice president and counsel of State Farm
Insurance Companies in Bloomington, Ill. Currently, his practice focuses on
mediation and arbitration services, and he serves as an arbitrator for the Civil
Court of the City of New York. Jordan has been active in the ABA for 25 years,
serving as a member of the ABA House of Delegates from 1993-1999 and Chair of
the Tort and Insurance Practice Section (now the Tort Trial and Insurance
Practice Section) in 1992-1993. He is a recipient of TIPS’ Andrew C. Hecker
Memorial Award, and has also been involved in the ABA Judicial Division, the
sections of Dispute Resolution and Antitrust Law, and the Commission on Racial
and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession.
Alan R. Brayton has a national reputation as one of the foremost attorneys
representing victims of asbestos-related disease, having successfully tried
numerous million dollar cases involving victims of mesothelioma and other
asbestos-related diseases, products liability, medical malpractice and personal
injury. He attended the United States Air Force Academy and spent 12 years on
active duty in the USAF, including seven years as a Judge Advocate. He has
served as Chair of the ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section’s
Plaintiffs' Involvement Task Force and on the Task Force on Strategic Alliances,
and is Vice-Chair of the Products, General Liability and Consumer Law Committee.
