2008
ABA Annual Meeting
August 7-12, 2008
Waldorf~Astoria Hotel
New York, NY

Welcome

Dear Colleagues:

New York, New York, what more do we need to say? We hope that you will join TIPS to celebrate our very special 75th Anniversary in August. We have planned a fun and interesting meeting and will make the most of the city as well as our headquarters hotel, the legendary Waldorf~Astoria Hotel. On Friday night, we kick off our meeting at the historic Ellis Island Museum where TIPS will hold a dinner, a reception and a diversity event. We will board buses at our hotel and head to the tip of Manhattan where we’ll be ferried across the harbor to Ellis Island. Attendees will have the run of the museum for the evening. During the event, TIPS will present our inaugural Liberty Awards to the Honorable Bernice Donald and Catherine Christian, President of the New York County Bar Association. Unlike past Welcome Receptions, TIPS has exclusive use of the Museum for the evening, and we plan to make it a special, once-in-a-lifetime event.

Our Leadership Dinner on Sunday night has been transformed into our 75th Anniversary Gala. This black-tie optional dinner and dance will be held at the United Nations, in the private Delegates Dining Room. Plan to join us for good food, good friends, good times, and lots of dancing! We will have a brief but special program that evening where we will award three of our Section’s highest honors: TIPS will present the Kirsten Christophe Award to Darcee Siegel, the Edmund S. Muskie Pro Bono Award to Victor J. Garo and the Robert McKay Law Professor Award to the Honorable Ronald A. Cass. As you’ve probably realized by now, TIPS will be the envy of the entire ABA as we were able to secure the two premier venues for our major social events. Many thanks go to Arrangements Chair, Fran Semaya, who was responsible for making this happen.

Finally, we have arranged an outstanding line-up of CLE programs under the leadership of Ron Richman and his Annual Meeting Program Committee. They and our TIPS General Committees have done an exceptional job in making sure that we have a wide variety of selections to improve our knowledge and skills. It is our hope that you will also take this opportunity to explore the amazing sights of New York City. Manhattan is home to some of the finest museums, restaurants, shopping, nightlife and theater in the world, and we’ve tried to plan this meeting to give you time to get out and sample what New York has to offer! Please join us in New York this summer to enjoy this incredible city with its world-class restaurants and cultural experiences, some great CLE, and TIPS events that will meet your every expectation. It promises to be a fantastic end to a wonderful Bar year. I am very proud of the meeting we have created. We look forward to seeing you there!

Yours truly,
