Legal Data Interchange

What is LDI?

Legal Data Interchange is a broad concept intended to encompass the exchange of information and data between members of the legal profession. It is most commonly associated with electronic court filing (see our related site on e-filing but actually contemplates court-to-lawyer, lawyer-to-lawyer, lawyer-to-client, and court-to-client transactions. The name is taken from the long extant EDI (electronic data interchange) concept, which has allowed businesses to create very expensive, very interwoven systems for information sharing.

The resources on this page point to historical "LDI" initiatives but focus primarily on more recent developments since the ABA's 1998 resolution, particularly those in the area of extensible markup language (XML) standards developments.
