Annotated Guide to Technology Resources for Nonprofits and Legal Associations
A fully annotated guide to technology resources for nonprofits and legal associations. You won’t find more extensive information on this cutting edge topic anywhere else on the World Wide Web.
Background Information
Bar associations and legal services organizations have unique technology needs that differ from those of law firms and for-profit legal entities. As associations, legal services and bar organizations require specialized solutions for the management of members, committees, meetings and events--which gives rise to software and Web-based applications that help perform these functions. As nonprofits with limited financial resources they must utilize free or low-cost technology solutions and participate in activities such as fundraising and volunteer recruitment. An increasing number of nonprofit activities are being conducted online, including fundraising--which allows donors to make donations online--and "virtual volunteering"--which makes it possible for volunteers to work electronically from home. The need for outreach, organizing and advocacy that is characteristic of many legal services and nonprofit associations also demands a different set of technology tools than is required in a law firm or for-profit legal environment.
Using the Guide
The Annotated Guide to Technology Resources for Nonprofits and Legal Associations includes technology resources directed toward nonprofit associations generally and resources directed toward legal associations specifically--including legal services organizations and bar associations. Legal technology resources primarily targeted to law firms are covered throughout the LTRC site and are therefore omitted from this guide. General nonprofit resources are included because of the dearth of technology information specifically addressing legal organizations.
