Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Training

VITA

VITA's NEW RELAXED TRAINING REQUIREMENT
For the first time, online training is being provided! VITA and TaxWise software training can be done at your own convenience, and is anticipated to take approximately two hours, depending on your proficiency with this software. Please complete both sets of Training:
  • VITA (tax law) Training: You must successfully complete at least the Basic and Wage modules of (i) the IRS's Link & Learn Taxes program, then print and mail your certificate to the appropriate Territory Manager, or (ii) the VITA Test and/or Retest (found in Pub. 6744 and Pub. 6745), then mail the completed test to the appropriate Territory Manager. Please see the 2007 Volunteer Student Guide (Pub. 678) for additional information.

  • TaxWise (software) Training: Contact your Territory Manager to find out about local requirements. To sign-up for the TaxWise online training, click here. If you have used TaxWise software before, a refresher course should take less than 2 hours.
For details, please review the National Agreement between the IRS and the ABA Section of Taxation Pro Bono Committee. To submit your VITA training certification, or to find out the specific software training requirements of your local VITA site location, please contact your local Territory Manager. To do so, simply click here, find your state and area in the alphabetical listing, and call or e-mail your Territory Manager. Should you require additional assistance, or desire in-person training, please feel free to contact your Territory Manager or a Community-Based Coalition. Additionally, the IRS has indicated that they are willing to bring the training to your organization's conference room. Please contact your Territory Manager for additional details. Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time and knowledge to those who need your help. Please contact Kevin Anderson (kanderson@deloitte.com) with any questions.
