Thanks for the Memories

John Copelan practices with Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellot, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and is the editor of State & Local Law News.

By John J. Copelan, Jr.

As my term as editor of the State & Local Law News comes to an end and I review proofs for the last time, I have been recalling the changes the News has undergone over the past two years. Looking back, we have listened to your comments and suggestions and implemented changes to address your concerns. In particular, we have responded to your request for more substantive articles in each issue of the News, we have added a recent developments section in every issue, summarizing recent decisions which may be of interest to governmental attorneys. For the first time, we have also published an annual cumulative index of articles and have designed and distributed a binder for the newsletter, both of which have enhanced the practical value of the newsletter to our readers.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues for all of their assistance over the past two years in writing, editing, and publishing our newsletter. My term as your editor has been made easier by a lot of cooperation and hard work by all my colleagues who wrote articles. In particular, I would like to thank the committee chairs who sponsored "theme" issues and were instrumental in making our new initiatives successful. I hope you've found these changes useful.

I would be remiss not to single out the efforts of my Assistant Editor Maite Azcoitia and Staff Editor Rick Bright. Both of these individuals put untiring hours into making this newsletter successful, and I could not have carried out my duties as editor without their services—thanks again, Maite and Rick.

After the Annual Meeting, I will be transitioning back onto the Executive Council and will be looking forward to Professor Dale Rubin assuming the duties as editor for the newsletter. I will be staying active in the fine work of the Section and hope to continue to hear from you in the future in my new office, where I'll be practicing governmental law with Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellott (email: jjc@escm.com). Keep in touch and see ya on the Internet!

Over & out (for the last time) from Fort Lauderdale.
