Popular Threads on SolosezRecommendations for a Color Laser PrinterI'm ready to make the move to color. Any recommendations on the color laser to buy for my practice? I don't have any advice as to a specific model but I do have one observation -- watch out for those consumables. In my IT career days we figured it cost about $0.25 per page, compared to 1 or 2 cents per page black and white. Ouch! -Tom Brown The OKI 5500 is really nice with a gloss sheen on the color that HP does not have. I like printing my color letterhead but that is because the designer used three colors on my logo and traditional printing is very price sensitive to the third color. The color laser does not care. I have been using my brother-in-law's printer to pre-print the letterheads but I am considering the smaller OKI 3300 which Staples has for $300. The four color cartridges are $56/ea but smaller than the ones for the 5500 that cost $120 each. I also plan to print my free guide to Fire Claims and other marketing material. So even though the per sheet cost is high, the total outlay is lower than going to a regular printer where you have to order 1,000 of anything to get a decent price. Steven B. Pollack Ricoh is good, to my use. You need to look at print costs, as they vary widely. Ricoh has one of the lower costs per page. For aggregated info on select printers, go to http://www.printershowcase.com and look at their information. I have three Ricoh color lasers, two MFC units and one CL7200D. Happy with all so far, but have had the 7200 longest. I did buy the big unit from the website I gave you, and bought the MFC units from Costco. HTH, YMMV. Darrell G. Stewart I have a Xerox Phaser 6300 and just love it. it is a workhorse, reliable and great color. Does two sided printing. Bob Moss If you use a color laser printer is the 25 cents a page for all pages or only when you print a color print. Can you use a color laser printer and print a black and white page for 1 or 2 cents per page but still have the color laser printer for when you want color or does the price of all pages go up? Also which black and white laser printers print at 1 or 2 cents a page? When one goes to a store to look at printers they know the price of the printer but how does one compare the price of toner etc of printing each page? Sandra M. Singer Our figures were based on gross averages for a number of laser printers around the office. I'm not sure about the color vs. black & white on the color lasers but I suspect the 25 cents/page covers either. It seemed our color lasers constantly needed something -- toner cartridges, obviously, and other things like the drum kit or the fuser kit. These are all consumables on our printers, which I believe were mostly HP Color LaserJet 4550s. The B&W lasers (various HPs -- 9000, 4300, etc.), on the other hand, didn't seem to have quite as many parts that needed to be replaced, and the huge toner cartridges seemed to last forever. -Tom Brown |
