What is Solosez?
In the spirit of November and all that it stands for, I'd like to start up this thread with idea of making it of the Threads of the Month. Let's spend the next few weeks defining what Solosez is.
Solosez is a virtual law firm of 2,333 solo and small firm lawyers. Well, for the most part.
Solosez is a handy place to which I can turn for information on subjects I don't know, such as probate law in a state 1,000 miles from my office. It is also where I can make my experience available to others. After more than 30 years of doing this stuff there is always something that enhances my understanding of one or more topics if I read the posts during the day. My regret is that I did not identify Solosez earlier.

Solosez is both a source of advice, business and friendship, but more than anything else, solosez is a collective conscience. I am willing to bet that none of the stock option backdating or Hewlett Packard pretext scandals would have ever taken place if those in house counsel had their very own solosez as a check on their actions.

Solosez is amorphous. It means something different to each member. For some its a helping hand, for others a source of challenging problems. Some use it as a chat room. Some find the rare opportunity to preach to an audience of 2,000+. Some use it as e-therapy to soothe away daily frustrations. Some use it to take a straw poll. For what ever reason, most of us use it every day.

- That one legal tome that was left intact (with no pages torn out) in the law school library - The local pub down the street - Your veterinarian - That piece of chocolate cake you just can't resist - Your table at Thanksgiving when all of the relatives and friends come to visit - Your not-so-nerdy IT guy, who can fix your network but also recommend the coolest PDA and MP3 player - That significant other that is really exciting at first, the romance wears off a bit after a while, but then always sparks the relationship anew
