Google Calendar

http://www.google.com/googlecalendar/new.html

As you probably know, Google has a fairly robust calendar out there, and you can designate which people get to view your calendar or even add events to it.

Seems like a good solution for those of us that do not want to deal with MS Outlook Server.

Anyone using this successfully?

Yes - I love it. First of all it is absolutely free. You can access it from anywhere, and you can allow your staff access to it.

I'm trying to find a way to publish my MS Exchange based calendar in semi-realtime (at least every hour) to a publicly available calendar automatically.  Right now I can manually open Outlook, select 'file/save as web page' and then upload the published files up to my password protected site for my (wife|family|close friends) to view.  I've taken a look at Google Calendar but there doesn't appear to be a currently available synch method, which would be excellent.   Does anyone have any leads as to a commercial (or even free....) program which can reside on a Windows 2003 server and can publish a webpage with the contents of a calendar (sans-'private appointment' details) to the web?

DeskNow - http://www.desknow.com/

The most recent versions include the ability to publish free/busy information to the web, includes multiple calendars that can be shared.  We also synch DeskNow calendar and contact data with Treos using SyncML - which means that we don't have to be connected to the desktop to synch.  The software sync's over the Internet. -- Aaron Rittmaster, Overland Park, Kansas

I've tried it and it works well, and is very flexible.  You can have multiple schedules on the same calendar and choose to view all of them or one or some of them.  Not only good for several people working together, but for one person who wants to keep business and personal appointments on the same calendar and be able to separate the two when needed.

There are a lot of other neat features as well.

I did a review of Google Calendar in my Being Solo column in the June issue of GPSOLO Magazine.  You can read it online at: http://www.abanet.org/genpractice/magazine/2006/jun/beingsolo.html

no real need for ms exchange and the $$$ it costs. i use outlook live, a web based version of the software which is in constant synch with my computer and is available at www.msn.com for about $60/year. allows up to 4 different calendars per account with different permissions for each.

I use ms exchange because of how well it works with my blackberry.  I pay $5 a month and it is worth it to me because I am out and about so much.  I am notified immediately of any missed calls to my office or can forward them if I choose.  My calendar syncs with outlook so I can check/edit from any internet connection, my blackberry, or my desktop in the office.  Everything syncs real time so I can add or check appointments on the fly rather than waiting until I get to a terminal.  I will, however, look into outlook live to see if it works with my blackberry.  If it weren't for that part of my set up I think I would be sold.

ms exchange for only $5/mo??? i thought the minimum for small businesses (less than 50 terminals) was in the $600/yr range.

You can get Small Business Server for a one-time fee with one-time licensing per user or per device.

You can also have hosted exchange quite affordably at places like: http://www.mailstreet.com and those referenced on http://www.microsoft.com/serviceproviders/solutions/catalog.aspx

I use it on a remote server from the same company that hosts my website ( Error! Hyperlink reference not valid.).  See this link for what I'm referring to: http://services.mail2web.com/Business/Exchange/

If you go with the $9.95 plan you get to download ms Outlook for free as well.  It's rather affordable and works perfectly for my needs as a solo.  I'm fairly new to all of this so you'll have to forgive me if you're referring to something different than what I'm using.  I've been hosting my family site with them for the past 4 years and have never had any issues with down time either.  I'm sure there are others out there doing the same thing.
