Message from the Section Chair

The Section is thrilled to continue to offer new member opportunities.  The next issue of e-Blast will reflect a more reader-friendly format and provide more substantive content. Please e-mail gillespj@staff.abanet.org if you wish to help with the new and improved member e-Blast.

Two significant groups of the Section’s membership are young lawyer and law student members.  The Section recently partnered with the Young Lawyers Division to survey this group about their on-line social networking preferences.  Results from more than 2,000 young lawyers are available from the Section’s new young lawyer resource page.

The Section’s new law student resource page highlights Section opportunities for students, such as “job tips” from Section leadership.

The Section is pleased to partner with related organizations to help advance Section goals.  The Section is co-sponsoring the upcoming RSA Conference; which helps attendees gain perspective on the information security industry as well as emerging trends and best practices on leading topics.  The Section is also co-sponsoring the 23rd Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference in April with the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law.  The Section also offers a joint membership opportunity with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).  The Section continues to sponsor a teleconference the last Tuesday of every month with the Center for CLE.  Please click here to learn more about upcoming programs.

As spring starts, the Section looks forward to fabulous programming and networking opportunities at the Annual Meeting.  I invite you to join Section members and me in New York CityEarly registration rates are available until May 30th

Committee on Rights & Responsibilities of Scientists Student Opportunity

The Committee on the Rights and Responsibilities of Scientists (CORRS) seeks active participation on the part of law student members.  Recently focusing on legal and ethical aspects of research with human subjects, CORRS is expanding the scope of its activities, and would like to develop projects addressing topics of specific interest to individual students.  CORRS may be particularly attractive to those embarking upon a second career in law, but all are heartily encouraged to apply.
