The SciTech Lawyer

The Section’s quarterly magazine features practical and timely articles on a diverse range of science and technology law issues. This issue focuses on the impact of bioinformatics.

Chair's Welcome

Congratulations to all of the students who completed their spring semester, and best wishes as you either continue your studies or embark on your legal career!  The Section will be a useful resource for you as it continues to lead the profession into the often uncharted intersections of law, science and technology.  For example, two recent Section publications are Science for Lawyers and Virtual Law Navigating the Legal Landscape of Virtual Worlds.

The Section also embraces cutting edge topics in its programs, such as virtual worlds.   The Section  will sponsor the innovative The Why Virtual Worlds Matter for Lawyers program on Tuesday, June 24th at 1pm EST. The program will be offered in Second Life as a drop-in session, as well as through the traditional teleconference format.   It will present the legal issues arising from virtual worlds with a particular focus on the issues clients may encounter in these new spaces. Virtual worlds, or the "3D Internet," are rapidly becoming big business. The panelists and the moderator, Ben Duranske, Co-Chair of the Virtual Worlds and Multi-User Online Games, will be "in world" during the conference, represented by avatars. Click here to register now.
