Letter from the Chair, by Ivan K. Fong Dear SciTech Section members:
Welcome to my first issue of e-BLAST as chair! Keeping you connected and engaged in the work of the Section is important, and there are several ways we aim to communicate with you:
· Our flagship publication, The SciTech Lawyer, is our quarterly magazine that contains cutting-edge articles on current issues in law, science, technology, and policy.
· These e-mails, called e-BLAST (short for electronic Bulletin of Law, Science & Technology), will be sent monthly to update you on Section activities and announcements.
· Most of our committees have e-mail listserves through which committee members can communicate informally on late-breaking topics of interest.
All of this, of course, is in addition to the substantive publications we produce, CLE programs we sponsor, and our scholarly journal, Jurimetrics.
We are building on the momentum from the August 2004 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, with projects ranging from more jointly sponsored programs, more CLE teleconferences, more legislative activity, and more publications. Please click on the links included in this newsletter to learn more!
If you have ideas for how we can communicate with you better, please contact us as well. You can e-mail me at ivan.fong@ge.com.
Best wishes for a great fall,
Ivan K. Fong
Chair, 2004-05
Scientific Evidence Monograph Series - Looking for Authors by Cynthia H. Cwik, Scientific Evidence Committee Chair We are currently working on the Seventh Monograph of The Scientific Evidence Review, which we expect to publish next year before the ABA Annual Meeting. This Monograph will focus on current issues at the cross-roads of science, technology and the law (as we did with Monograph No. 5). If you have suggestions for topics to include in this Monograph, or you are interested in submitting an article to include, please contact Cynthia Cwik or Helen Witt.
Section Reorganizes Committees The Section has reorganized its committee structure, sunset some committees and added new ones, including:
Healthcare Privacy, Security and Information Technology
Special Committee on Homeland Security
Special Committee on Space Law
