About the Section
The Section of Science & Technology Law was formed in 1974 to provide a forum for addressing issues at the intersection of law, science, and technology. Since then, the Section has grown to become a focal point for information and policy on many important issues, such as computer and information security law, privacy, cybercrime, scientific evidence, genetic research and engineering, biotechnology and nanotechnology.

Section News
- Election Protection Project seeks volunteers to protect the right to vote in the November 2008 election. Sign up today.
- Resolving the Unexpected in Elections: Election Officials' Options – “A technical guide for election officials and their lawyers.” This resource reviews the types of voting equipment errors and how to proceed. Advice from computer engineers, security and forensics experts and election administration experts, who seek to ensure election accuracy. A project from the Center for Election Excellence, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research group offering insights for the improvement and support of election administration.
- Resolution No. 100 passed before the House of Delegates in August. It urges Ratification of the UN E-Commerce Convention.
- Resolution No. 301 also passed before the House. It discourages states from requiring private investigator licenses for computer forensics work.

Section Committees
The Section has 27 substantive committees that are organized into three divisions:
- E-Commerce and IT Law
- Life Sciences and Physical Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Division
Section members are invited to join Section committees at no additional cost. Many committees offer informational newsletters and discussion list serves.
