Joining a Group or Committee
Committee on Groups and Substantive Committees The committee assists in coordinating the administrative, but not the substantive, operation of the groups and the substantive committees of the Section. The committee also prepares and oversees the revision and amendment to the Section Policy and Procedures Handbook. The Community Outreach Committee partners with state and local minority bar associations to promote the Section's initiatives to provide training to minority lawyers in the areas of real property, trust and estate planning. The Communications Committee is primarily responsible for helping other Section groups and committees publicize their activities to Section members, other lawyers, and the target audience in accordance with the Section’s communication plan. The Continuing Legal Education Committee is responsible for implementing the Section’s CLE policy as directed by the council. Coordination of Governmental Submissions The Government Submissions Committee initiates and reviews submissions to governmental bodies with respect to proposed legislation, regulation projects and other matters affecting estate planning and estate administration, with the view to improving the law and ensuring the highest quality and balance approach. The Corporate Sponsorship Committee oversees all activity relating to corporate sponsorships of Section programs. The committee works with all Section standing committees, division groups and committees to identify the potential for sponsorable activities and to assist in securing sponsors. Digital Signatures and E-Commerce This Digital Signature and eCommerce Committee monitors developments regarding electronic contracting and electronic recording and advises the Section on matters of relevance to the practice areas in which Section members are involved. The Diversity Committee is charged with implementing the Section’s and the ABA’s goal to promote full and equal participation in the profession by minorities and women. The Membership Committee promotes the growth of the Section and recommends membership policies and promotions to the council. National Conference of Lawyers and Corporate Fiduciaries The National Conference of Lawyers and Corporate Fiduciaries was formed in 1940. It is composed of seven representatives of the American Bar Association and seven representatives of the trust division of the American Bankers Association. It was organized to address matters of common interest between the two associations and to help eliminate controversies giving rise to misunderstandings and litigations between the two groups. The Nominations Committee receives and considers suggestions for nominations and nominates persons to fill position vacancies. The committee is appointed each year and consists of five members. At least two past chairs of the Section must be appointed to the committee, and at least one member of the committee can be neither a present nor former officer nor a member of the Section’s council. The Planning Committee considers and recommends long range plans to enable the Section to best carry out its mission and goals, and performs other functions as directed by the council. The Publications Committee is responsible for oversight of Section publications and implementation of communications policies as directed by the council. The Section Advisory Board’s primary role is to address specific matters relating to the Real Property, Trust and Estate Journal and other Section publications that warrant further study and critical analysis. The Technology Committee manages the various technology tools of the Section and develops recommendations with respect to their ongoing use and development. The committee advises the Section on the most advantageous ways to use current technology to facilitate communication among Section members, enhance access to information produced by the Section, and conduct business transactions, such as purchasing Section products or paying member dues. |

Join The RPTE Section If you're already an ABA member, simply add the Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law to your membership. The Section dues are $55 annually.
