HUD'S RESPA Regulations:
The Proposals, The Comments, The Future

By: Sheldon Hochberg

HUD has issued proposed new regulation which, potentially, will dramatically restructure RESPA practices and consumer protections. Sheldon Hochberg has provided us with an excellent synopsis of the regulations and the diversity of the comments filed with HUD. This issue is critical to the consumer real estate practice, and this article is a "must read" for anyone who wants to get a handle on current events regarding RESPA. This article is also an excellent prelude to the program on RESPA regulations scheduled for the Section's upcoming Spring Symposium.

Debra Stark has created a Habitat for Humanity chapter at John Marshall Law School in Chicago, creating new ways for law students and lawyers to work on and add value to HFH projects in their communities. Please read her article and think about starting a chapter in your law school community.

The Pro Bono Committee is seeking additional members to work on new projects

As a result of the committee reorganization last year, the new Pro Bono Committee is actively seeking new members who are interested in helping out with the many "pro bono" program possibilities being discussed for Section involvement. Take this opportunity to see what this new committee is gearing up to accomplish and join in if you can.
