LINKS

Here's where to go today:
Note: all links are underlined and in bold type

www.mismo.org

The Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization, founded by the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, coordinates standards for electronic tools used in real estate transactions. This is primarily a subscriber-based "membership" group, but the information created by MISMO is circulated free through their website (and on which MIMSO often requests public comment) and provides an interesting and helpful look at how standards in areas such as XML are being developed.

www.nacrc.org

The National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials and Clerks has created several web sites to centralize information for its members and the public related to the recording industry, including the following site addressing coordination of electronic recording tools and transaction standards:
Land/Property Records Interest Group

Map/Survey Plotters

Several readers have asked about software programs to plot legal descriptions to verify surveys or create maps and plats to use in development transactions. The editor suggests several products (thanks to certain contributors to DIRT):

Deed Plotter (www.deedplot.com)

Mapdraw Deed Plotter (www.informatik.com/mapdraw.html)

and Plat Pronto (www.bwmuncy.com/software.htm)

Other products may be found at on this web site www.outfitters.com/genealogy/land/compmaps.html.

We also refer you to an interesting discussion and links to the history of land descriptions, land grants and conveyancing in the United States (www.ultranet.com/~deeds/landref.htm)

Finding Lenders

Did you ever have difficulty finding that long-lost lender or servicer to get a payoff for an old mortgage? Ever wonder how to reach that lender lost in the chain of title somewhere? What if the institution is "failed"? If the title company or lender you're working with is unable to find them, try www.payoffassist.com (initial trial period is free, and the annual subscription is reasonably priced). Other useful sites are www.mortgagemag.com and www.qwestdex.com.

Thank you for reading E-Dirt and for your participation in the ABA Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section.
