The RPPT Section is proud to sponsor the second annual Jacques T. Schlenger Student Writing Contest.

The contest is a chance for law students to earn up to $2000 in cash by submitting an essay on a current topic dealing with real property, probate, or trust law. The winning article will be published in the section's Journal.

Law professors are strongly encouraged to spread the word about the contest to their students.

Contest rules and more information is posted on the contest description web page.

New ABA Retirement Program

The Section's Membership Committee has had several discussions with the American Bar Retirement Association (affiliated with the ABA) regarding some interesting developments in certain retirement options and products now available to ABA members. Click on www.abaretirement.com to read a general discussion of the ABA Members Retirement Program and to learn more about the retirement plan choices now available to all of us as ABA members.

The ABA Members Retirement Program is designed to meet the retirement planning needs of the legal community. Developed by the American Bar Retirement Association, the Program delivers exactly what law firms need:

Investment Flexibility – A wide selection of professionally managed core funds allow participants the opportunity to seek their own investment goals. In addition, a self-directed brokerage account option provides access to publicly traded stocks, bonds and mutual funds.

Full-Service – The Program provides law firms with a bundled service package for investment management, trust and custody, recordkeeping, tax reporting, discrimination testing and participant communication and advice services.

Low Cost – With Program assets totaling over $3 billion, the Program leverages its size to deliver state-of-the-art services while keeping costs low and eliminating out-of-pocket charges.

For over 30 years, the Program has addressed the needs of sole-practitioners and large law firms across the country. The Program is managed by State Street Bank & Trust and offers a full range of tax-qualified plans including profit sharing, pension, 401(k) and defined benefit plans.
