The Rule of Law Initiative supports programming to improve both legal education within formal university settings and the broader public’s understanding of the law's role in the lives of individual citizens. Work within universities focuses on supporting clinical legal education, moot court and mock trial activities, curriculum reform, and the development of accreditation standards. The Rule of Law Initiative has also developed a Legal Education Reform Index, which is designed to comprehensively evaluate the system of legal education in a given country. Work on public legal education emphasizes use of the media such as public service announcements and televised forums as well as street law-style courses conducted by law students for the benefit of secondary school-age pupils.
