Opportunities with the Rule of Law Initiative

The Rule of Law Initiative is comprised of over 400 staff and volunteers in over 40 countries, including the U.S. We enlist talented individuals who possess the skills and commitment necessary to effectively promote the rule of law in our host countries.

The ABA Rule of Law Initiative is currently seeking candidates to fill programmatic positions both at our headquarters in Washington, DC and abroad in our field offices. The ABA Rule of Law Initiative offers a wide range of opportunities that call upon diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

Successful applicants would join a dynamic team of program staff, who are dedicated to promoting the rule of law in Africa, Asia, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East and North Africa. Those candidates with relevant language skills, experience living abroad, and familiarity with United States Government funding requirements are particularly encouraged to apply.

International Pro Bono Legal Specialist Program

The ABA Rule of Law Initiative often seeks experienced judges, attorneys and law professors interested in lending their expertise to our rule of law reform programs for both long- and short-term assignments overseas.

Through its International Pro Bono Legal Specialist Program, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative provides legal expertise and technical assistance to emerging democracies around the globe as they modify and restructure their laws and legal systems. Legal Specialists reside in host countries for varying periods of time, and work closely with legal professionals, local governments, non-governmental organizations, law schools and other institutions to identify legal reform priorities and to implement technical assistance projects.

Internship Program

The Rule of Law Initiative offers a wide range of internship opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and law students, as well as recent graduates interested in international rule of law promotion.
