In the Democratic Republic of Congo, gender-based violence has been used as a weapon in the ongoing civil conflict. Official statistics from the Ministry of Gender show some 5,000 female survivors of gender-based violence in the provinces of South and North Kivu in 2007.

Mathieu Ndongo-Koni, ABA ROLI’s Director for the Democratic Republic of Congo highlights the achievements of the legal aid and victim support program and the importance of ABA ROLI’s role in fighting gender-based violence in the DRC.
