Armenian Legal Professionals Trained on European Convention on Human Rights

Early this month, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) organized a two-day training on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) for legal practitioners based outside the capital. A total of 30 advocates, public defenders, prosecutors and investigators attended the training in Dilijan, Armenia, which focused on applying articles five and six of the ECHR. Read more »»

On October 6, the University of Pristina’s Faculty of Law introduced a student honor code to the student body. Moldovan Legal Practitioners Trained on Hearings Involving Abused Children

In late September, the National Center for Child Abuse Prevention (NCCAP) of Moldova conducted two two-day trainings on legal hearings involving abused children. ABA ROLI Co-Sponsors Training on Moldovan Domestic Violence Law

In September, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) continued its anti-domestic violence work in Moldova by partnering to provide a training session on mechanisms and procedures under the law on domestic violence. Armenia Qualification Exam a Success

In 2006, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) began partnering with the Armenian Chamber of Advocates to prepare the first advocate qualification examination to be given in more than five years. On August 13 and 14, Nick Hentoff, ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) long term legal specialist, conducted a two-day interactive trial advocacy skills training for 30 Tajik advocates. The seminar focused on increasing local advocates’ awareness of the benefits of the adversarial system and how its elements can be incorporated into legal practice under the existing Tajik criminal procedure code. Law Students and Government Officials Discuss Anti-Corruption Efforts

In its recent world corruption perception ranking, Transparency International placed Ukraine at 134, which highlights the dire need for raising public awareness about corruption and its negative impacts. To enhance anti-corruption initiatives, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) held a July 6 roundtable at the Parliamentary Library of Ukraine. Participants discussed the Guidelines on the U.N. ABA ROLI Conducts National Professional Ethics Conference in Russia

The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), under its Rule of Law Partnership Project in the Russian Federation, facilitated a nation-wide conference on professional ethics for advocates. The goal of the conference, held in Rostov-on-Don from August 6–7, was to increase the application of normative ethical standards within the legal profession. The conference, which attracted more than 100 participants, also provided an open forum to express opinions and ask questions of the country’s leading legal experts. Read more »»
