Skills Workshop for Trafficking Victim Counselors in Nigeria
On March 12-13, the Rule of Law Initiative's Africa Division and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP), with funding from USAID, jointly sponsored a two-day counseling skills workshop in Lagos, Nigeria, for 30 NAPTIP rehabilitation officers representing each of the TIP shelters in Nigeria.

Law and Civics Courses Begin at Islamic University in Tajikistan

Rule of Law Initiative Launches Local Governance Legal Training Series in Tajikistan
Amid the decentralization of executive power in Tajikistan, the Rule of Law Initiative has launched a USAID-sponsored local governance training program on Tajik law and available enforcement mechanisms. The first training session was held April 6 for twenty local government officials from the Sughd region of Tajikistan.
South East European Countries Commit to Upgrading Stability Pact Anti-Corruption Initiative
On April 13, South East European (SEE) countries took a major step towards improving efficacy and ownership of regional anti-corruption activities by signing a Memorandum of Understanding committing funds to the Regional Secretariat Liaison Office of the Stability Pact Anti-Corruption Initiative.
Assessing Anti-Corruption Progress in Georgia

Magistrates' Association of Serbia Presents Family Violence Survey
The Magistrates’ Association of Serbia (MAS), in partnership with the Rule of Law Initiative, presented its Family Violence Survey at a March 30, 2007 roll-out ceremony. The survey showed an increase in reported cases of family violence from the previous year. Magistrates viewed this trend as a positive change in the mindset of victims, who now feel protected by the system and more willing to report violence.
Workshop on Human Rights Protection in Criminal Trials in Ukraine
The problem of human rights violations in criminal trials in Ukraine has been repeatedly raised by many international organizations. To address this issue, on March 31-April 2, 2007, the Rule of Law Initiative convened a training session for 30 defense lawyers from throughout Ukraine.
