ABA ROLI Hosts its First Anti-Trafficking Training in Cameroon
Since the passage of a 2005 anti-trafficking in persons (anti-TIP) law, the Cameroonian government has stepped up its efforts to investigate and prosecute criminals involved in human trafficking rings. And yet, many actors in Cameroon charged with overseeing anti-TIP efforts lack sufficient knowledge about the phenomenon or about the 2005 law to effectively combat these crimes. New Judicial Training Institute Will Ensure Quality of Courts in Liberia
The US Agency for International Development, in consultation with the Liberian Supreme Court has tasked the ABA Rule of Law Initiative with planning and developing a new Judicial Training Institute for the country’s judges, magistrates, and court personnel. This initiative is part of a long term strategy for improving the administration of courts and the provision of justice in Liberia. Read more »»
Gender-Based Violence Program Receives Full Government Support in DRC

Three New Country Directors in Africa
At the start of 2008, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative is launching new country offices in three African countries that show promise for reform. A trio of new country directors—Mathieu Ndongo-Koni in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Yolande Fouda in Cameroon, and Kenneth Anderson in Ethiopia—have been recruited to oversee the programs as they promote the rule of law in Africa, a region where ABA ROLI’s work is expanding. Newest Office in Ethiopia Part of Growing Africa Program
USAID recently committed $2.7 million over three years to launch a new ABA ROLI project in Ethiopia. The project will focus on judicial reform, legal education reform, and potentially election-related training. Read more »»
