Dear Fellow Citizen:

In order for democracy to flourish, citizens need to exercise their right to vote.  This important duty is highlighted as we approach the 40th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act in 2005.  American history is replete with instances of citizens fighting for the right to cast ballots for their elected officials.  It is a right, and a responsibility, that we must take seriously.

With another presidential election fast approaching, the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Election Law has prepared the enclosed pocket card on voter rights and responsibilities. Written in clear, simple language, the card offers voters the information they need to ensure that they can cast their votes, and that their votes count.

We hope you will join us in distributing this information. Please feel free to duplicate the enclosed card, or download camera-ready copy from the Standing Committee’s Web site at www.abanet.org/publicserv/election.html.  The cards must be printed on 100 lb. Cover stock, with an opus dull finish.

Our founders believed that an informed citizenry could use its votes to make the most important decisions about the course of our nation. They can – but only if they fully understand their rights and responsibilities as voters. Please join us in this effort to help every American participate fully in our democratic process.

Sincerely,

Dennis W. Archer
