What is Law-Related Education?

Law-related education fosters the knowledge, skills, and values that students need to function effectively in a pluralistic, democratic society based on the rule of law.

The practice of law-related education includes essential elements that encompass subject matter, instructional practices, and contexts, skills, attitudes, beliefs, and values, all of which can be distinguished for analytical purposes, but are inextricably interconnected in practice.

To learn more about the essentials of law-related civic education, read the pamphlet Essentials of Law-Related Education (.pdf). To find out about state and national law-related education projects, visit our online directory.
