Politics, politics, politics. Everybody talks about politics—especially in election years—but not everyone knows how to get involved beyond the voting booth. Sure, you may not be able to vote just yet, but you can get engaged in the democratic process just the same. Once you begin to participate in politics, you'll be better equipped to make the tough decisions when it's time.

In this edition of Students in Action, you'll read about how a Chicago nonprofit organization, The Mikva Challenge, is empowering high school students to learn about democracy and acquire the skills needed for civic participation. After you read the article, check out the accompanying activities and read a teacher's perspective.
