WORKSHOP: A "MICE" WAY TO LEARN ABOUT GOVERNMENT

A “Mice” Way to Learn About Government

Tuesday, April 4, 10:45-11:45 a.m.
Peter and Cheryl Barnes, VSP Books

Peter and Cheryl Barnes, authors of a series of children's books about civics, will discuss their curriculum, A "Mice" Way To Learn About Government. Peter and Cheryl are the authors and illustrators of Woodrow, the White House Mouse, about the White House and the presidency; House Mouse, Senate Mouse, about Congress and the legislative process, and Marshall, the Courthouse Mouse, about the workings of the Supreme Court. Their new book, released in November, is Woodrow For President, which teaches children about voting, campaigns and elections. The Barnes' books have been adopted into social studies curriculums in elementary schools nationwide. Woodrow For President was just named a Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People for 2000 by the Children's Book Council and the National Council for the Social Studies. For a fun and entertaining way to teach elementary level children about government and politics, Woodrow and his friends are just the ticket! Attendees will receive free "Woodrow For President" campaign buttons! Peter and Cheryl will autograph and sell copies of their books and accompanying curriculum guides at the conference.
