WORKSHOP: USING LRE TO TEACH CHARACTER EDUCATION

Using LRE to Teach Character Education

Wednesday, April 5, 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
Anna Boling, Director of the Law-Related Education Program at the University of Georgia

In 1999, the Georgia General Assembly passed legislation requiring that Character Education be taught in Georgia schools (K-12) beginning in the fall of 2000. In reviewing the legislation, it is easy to observe how law-related education curriculum materials can be used to support the Character Education initiative in Georgia. Ms. Boling will review the Georgia initiative and how the University of Georgia’s LRE program responded to it in an effort to equip Georgia teachers to meet the Character Education challenge. Mandates in other states will be reviewed as well along with suggestions of how LRE can be used to meet those states character education objectives.
