Program Status: The Legal Studies Program, which was started in 1979, is administered through the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and the College of General Studies.
Statement of Intellectual Structure:
"The Legal Studies major is an interdisciplinary course of study that combines the theories and methods of several social science disciplines and of law. While not designated as a pre-law program, the goal is to develop students' understanding of the nature, content, and operation of American law and legal institutions."
Program Curricular Organization: Ten courses, including three required courses, electives in legal studies and allied (mostly social science) departments, and two seminars.
